What we did
We were asked to pitch ideas for the refurbishment of the walkway running through the centre of the Spennymoor Town Hall building back in 2018. When I visited the site I found out that the walkway itself was in a really bad state of repair.
After undertaking some research I found out that the artist Norman Cornish had been born and lived in Spennymoor all of his life. And, as it happened, 2019 would mark the Centenary of his birth.
So we developed a presentation to show how we could aim a little higher than just re-furbishing the walkway by maybe turning it into an art gallery space to display some of the paintings of Norman’s.
Then a couple of days before the presentation, we developed the vision further by coming up with the idea of printing the paintings onto glass and back lighting them.
On the strength of this idea we won the contract to carry out the refurbishment.
