Well, there’s one good thing to come out of the quarantine period, I’ve managed to make a start on scanning in some of my archive images from my days as Sunderland AFC’s Official Photographer!!!
I started working at Inkerman Print in 1978 and they printed the match day programmes for the big three North East sides, Sunderland, Newcastle and Middlesbrough.
The guy who took the photographs for the programmes hated football and taking photographs at the match spoiled his weekends. So I said that I would take them…
I was told that if I bought my own camera he would take me to the next match to see how I did. Five matches later and I was left to take all the sports photography for the programmes.
From the mid 80’s I had started my own business and the photography side of things had expanded and I ended up becoming Sunderland AFC’s Official Photographer. Dream Job for me as I had supported the club since I was a kid.
So all of the photographs I have, are stored in boxes in the loft at the moment. All negatives, (not digital).So, I have just started to get things set up to scan them in and digitise them all. It will be a long and arduous task but it must be done.
